Flagship Events

Odi Vilaiyaadu Nanba

On 13 April 2024, Odi Vilaiyaadu Nanba brought Tamil heritage to life through games, teamwork, and storytelling as part of the Tamil Language Festival 2024. Eleven teams raced through five stations inspired by the Aimperum Kaapiyangal, blending speed with culture, language, and collaboration in a vibrant celebration of Tamil identity.

Sorkanal

Another of our flagship projects is Sorkanal (சொற்கனல்), an annual inter-university Tamil debate competition, inaugurated in 2023. The objective of this competition is to enhance university students' interest in Tamil and provide them a platform to debate topics at a higher level than school debates.

Kutties Koothu

​ In partnership with Sree Narayana Mission, STS youth led monthly cultural sessions for elderly residents, celebrating festivals through crafts and games. This initiative showcased youth-led compassion and intergenerational bonding.

Elderlies Befriender

​ In partnership with Sree Narayana Mission, STS youth led monthly cultural sessions for elderly residents, celebrating festivals through crafts and games. This initiative showcased youth-led compassion and intergenerational bonding.

Sollai Thaandi Varuvaaya

As part of the Tamil Language Festival, STS held a reel-making competition with a workshop by Rithik Pandian, empowering youth to create Tamil content. Judged by Mdm Rajalakshmi and TikToker Haresh.

Padaippalaraaga oru Naal

Jointly organised by Singapore Tamil Society and Pek Kio CC IAEC, this creative content competition encouraged youth to present news in engaging formats, including imaginative concepts like conspiracy theories. It began with an oratory workshop by DJ Ravi G and concluded with a prize ceremony graced by Minister Alvin Tan.

Oru Kelichitra Kadhai Sollata

Jointly organised by Singapore Tamil Society and West Coast CC IAEC, this TLF 2022 event aimed to teach participants creation of comic strips without the skills of animation! 

Maathi Yosi

As part of the Tamil Language Festival 2021, the Youth Wing introduced a fresh take on Bommalattam by digitizing the traditional art form. The virtual show, streamed via Facebook Live, made the performance accessible during COVID-19 and attracted over 1,000 views.

Vaanga Tamzhil Pesalaam

An oratorical competition for Upper Primary and Lower Secondary students, held over a month with 120 participants. The grand finale took place on 14 April at Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre, with nearly 200 attendees. Ex-NMP Mr. R. Dhinakaran graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.

Oru Kutti Kadhai Sollata

As the flagship STS event for the Tamil Language Festival 2020, Sanjay expressed his joy at the show's success, garnering over 4,000 views on Facebook and YouTube Live. As Youth Wing President, he shared his experience managing 150+ participants aged 16 to 60, and receiving 35 short film submissions.

Sigaram 

Partnered with Wordsmith, a little competition was held on that day and talks regarding the importance of the existence of a Tamil digital dictionary. The Guest of Honour for this event was Mr. Vikram Nair once again

Nizhal

A wonderful dance drama that was co-partnered with TATTVA and more than 220 people had enjoyed the performance that day, with Mr. Vikram Nair gracing the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour

Pongal Festival with Big At Heart

2023: STS and BAH held a flea market booth, distributing clothes to 900+ migrant workers with SSA and volunteer support.
2024: STS returned with a vibrant dance performance, reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity and the migrant community.

ItsRainingRaincoats Christmas Drive 2022

In December 2022, STS joined ItsRainingRaincoats in distributing Christmas gifts to migrant workers. Volunteers also engaged in meaningful conversations, offering warmth and gratitude during the festive season.

Beach Bonding Day 2022 & 2023 

 Held annually in December, this internal welfare event brought youth members together through potluck picnics, Secret Santa, and games like Captain’s Ball and charades. It fostered camaraderie and celebrated a year of teamwork.

Project Thaanam

On 6 May 2023, Project Thaanam, in collaboration with the TRC Youth Wing, encouraged blood donations among youth and the wider community. This initiative fostered a spirit of unity, compassion, and social responsibility—one drop at a time—while highlighting the lifesaving impact of giving to our national blood bank.

Beach Cleanup

On 21 May 2023, 10 volunteers joined the High Commission of India for a coastal cleanup. As one of the few Indian organisations involved, we proudly contributed to a cleaner shoreline and showed that small, united efforts can make a lasting impact.
